I remember many of these musicals, and the first one I grew up with was "The Sound of Music," released in 1965, along with "Mary Poppins", released a year earlier in 1964. I also looked for other Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals on the tube, and I found some of them, such as "South Pacific", "The King and I", and "Flower Drum Song"; Others like "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel" I had to discover on my own by listening to the music on cassettes (remember them?). One of the most gentle tunes I've discovered was the overture to "Carousel", which is almost as gentle as the opening music for "Jurassic Park". Other musicals I watched "My Fair Lady", "Doctor Doolittle" (the one w/Rex Harrison, Samantha Eggar, Anthony Newley, and Sir Richard Attenborough), "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", "Guys and Dolls", "Hello Dolly!", and "Fiddler on the Roof". After maturing into adulthood, I discovered Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals and Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. Then I discovered operas--what wonderful music!

This is the type of comedy that I love and is missing today..you couldn't help, but laugh and it still just as funny today...

This and the "turtle turtle" was always my favorites.

My favorite wa Kim Criswell singing Bali Hai. That was until i heard her sing Climb Ev'ry Mountain.

What about my number 2 and number 4 faves; Hercules and The Lion King. They both have choral endings Albeit Gospel Choral. But Choral nonetheless!!! My number 1 has something better than the Choral Ending

Each of these people had comedic genius....Tim Conway was always killer...don't care how many times i watch this, its still hilarious....and its such a joy to see them openly enjoy each other...Mama put us all on the floor....!!

Hannah Jane Casey was perfect when she did Dont Rain on my Parade. Is she soprano too? She can sing like Julie Andrews too and is even more flexible having done that Dont Rain on my Parade like Barbra Streisand. She is a singer, a dancer & an actress, much like Julie Andrews. She & Sierra Boggess are Julie Andrews - like. My loud & big claps for them both! 😊

Wonderfully amazing! Britain has lots of lovely suoerb singers. The one singing Julie Andrews' songs in Sound of Music sounds very like Julie Andrews herself. She should heve been the Mary Poppins in the Mary Poppins Returns or the other singer with short hair & purple gown. But then again, Julie Andrews popularity, identity & superb performance in the original Mary Poppins may be outdone & forgotten. Emily Blunt may have acted Mary Poppins very differently from Julie Andrews ' so as not to damage Julie Andrews' icon as Mary Poppins. Julie Andrews is simply incomparable. If her sound-alike singer & the other one with short hair& purple gown can dance like Julie Andrews does, Julie Andrews icon & popularity may fly away alright. But I dont know with the others. For me, even if in time, there will be sounding-like & dancing-like Julie Andrews Mary Poppins in the future, Julie Andrews will always be my beloved, adored, iconic original Mary Poppins. ❤️ Thank you BBC! There was really nothing much better that live television, no editing, no script changes prior the show, nope it was live and you got what you got, slip ups, screw ups, bust ups, ad libs all of it. Simply the best of entertainment television from the golden age of sitcoms. If you have never had to get up and go adjust the antennas or switch over from the VHF to the UHF antenna you missed out on a lot good stuff, 8 tracks, transistor radios, AM radio stations, A piece of penny candy for a penny, real chemistry sets and lawn darts. LOLOL.
